Greg McLean’s Wolf Creek 2 finds financing

Just when you thought it was safe to go to Australia, Mick Taylor is back! Writer/director/producer Greg McLean has been trying to get a sequel to WOLF CREEK off the ground for a while now, and it seems that WOLF CREEK 2 may finally be coming to fruition.

Screen Australia CEO Ruth Harley announced at the Melbourne International Film Festival this weekend that the company was financing the follow-up. Harley said, “Three of the new features hail from Victoria, including director Greg McLean’s film WOLF CREEK 2, which will once again bring horror, action and suspense to the outback.

The 2005 original was made for only $1.1 million and went on to make more than $50 million in worldwide box office. The sequel will presumably have a higher budget this time around. Matt Hearn will once again produce, and John Jarratt will reprise his role as serial killer Mick Taylor.

Lured by the promise of an authentic Australian holiday, backpackers Rutger, Katarina and Paul visit the notorious Wolf Creek crater. Their dream Outback adventure soon becomes a horrific reality when they encounter the site’s most infamous local, the last man any traveler to the vast and isolated region ever wants to meet; Mick Taylor.

As the backpackers flee, Mick pursues them on an epic, white knuckled rampage across hostile wasteland. Only one will remain to be dragged back to his lair to witness the true magnitude of his monstrosity. And if the last man standing is to have any hope of surviving where no one has survived before, he’ll have to use every ounce of cunning to outwit the man behind the monster, and become every bit as ruthless as the monster inside the man.
