Green Lantern 2 to be wait for it…darker and edgier

Despite an overwhelming slew of negative reviews, GREEN LANTERN is moving ahead with a sequel. This is also in addition to the fact that it has grossed less than its alleged production budget, sitting at $150M under $200. This may seem insane, but the film hasn’t opened in all overseas markets yet, so Warner Bros. is expecting to make a profit in the end.

Warners film group president Jeff Robinov had this to say to the LA Times about the sequel: We had a decent opening so we learned there is an audience.

“To go forward we need to make it a little edgier and darker with more emphasis on action… And we have to find a way to balance the time the movie spends in space versus on Earth.”

Of course, darker and edgier. Pretty soon superhero movies are going to be so dark and edgy it will just be a black screen for the duration of the film with some low growling as dialogue.

I’m not sure I can see Ryan Reynolds leading this sort of dark and edgy movie, and I don’t know if the character really lends itself to that, but I suppose we’re going to see them try. As for balancing out space and earth time, that’s really reliant on the budget, but I really didn’t care for the overwhelming CGI that made up most of the intergalactic parts of the film anyway.

Do you think there should be GREEN LANTERN sequel?
