Greater Good: American Dad co-creator and FOX team on new animated series

With animated projects being one of the few endeavors that have experienced a relatively smooth transition to remote production during the coronavirus pandemic, Fox was thrilled to give a green light to Greater Good, an animated workplace comedy from American Dad co-creator Mike Barker and Comedy Bang! Bang! director Stoney Sharp.

With a script commitment in place, the show is currently being developed at Fox Entertainment. Barker and Sharp will serve as writers on the project in addition to executive producing.

According to Deadline, Greater Good asks whether the world is worth saving. Maybe? It’s a workplace comedy about an international team of highly qualified but socially remedial misfits working and living in a hi-tech laboratory in the middle of rural Oklahoma. The characters must navigate petty office politics and challenging interpersonal relationships in order to band together and save the world… for the Greater Good.

News about Greater Good comes not long after it was announced that Fox is developing a hybrid animated-single-cam comedy called Demi-God from Bella and the Bulldogs writer Katie Greenway. Demi-God follows a powerless fast-food employee who escapes into a fantasy world she’s created in her favorite video game – only to have it turn against her when the virtual townspeople are granted sentience in the game’s latest upgrade.

As a die-hard fan of all things animation, I am all for the idea of Fox continuing to build upon their existing legacy with more animated projects. Not only will more animated projects keep artists employed throughout the pandemic, but they'll also afford creators more opportunities to inject a bit of humor into our everyday lives. I say let's get to work, and I look forward to seeing how Greater Good stands out among other shows like The Simpsons, American Dad, Family Guy, Bob's Burgers, and many more.
