Rick and Morty, the critically acclaimed animated series created by Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon, began life as a short parody of Doc Brown and Marty McFly from BACK TO THE FUTURE, so it would be only fitting that Rick and Morty would one day meet the pair who inspired their very creation.
There's always been talk of a fourth installment of the BACK TO THE FUTURE franchise, and although the likelihood of that happening is slim, Christopher Lloyd told a crowd at German Comic-Con in Dortmund that he'd be down for a meeting Doc Brown, Marty McFly, Rick Sanchez, and Morty Smith.
I think it’s fabulous. I’ve watched it, I love the humor in it, I love the characters. I’ve had a fantasy that they make another Back to the Future, Back to the Future 4. And Back to the Future 4 — it’s not happening — but if it did, Back to the Future 4 collides with Rick and Morty. Someway, somewhere in another time zone, in another space zone.
Bringing the four characters together "to have a hamburger or something" would be "fascinating," Lloyd said, adding, "I don’t know. But something really way out [there]. Maybe a good writer or something. But I think that would be kind of fun." Bringing Doc Brown and Marty into the animated world of Rick and Morty might be the best way to go in this regard, especially as I'm not about to hold my breath about another BACK TO THE FUTURE sequel.
Rick and Morty recently wrapped up the first half of its fourth season on Adult Swim, with the remaining five set to air sometime next year.
