It looks like Grant Gustin isn’t ready to give up the speedster life! It is being reported that Gustin, who plays Barry Allen on The Flash, is in negotiations with The CW to return for season 9, per “Deadline.”
Should talks move along as anticipated, this would make The Flash the longest-running Arrowverse series on the network. Arrow, the series that started it all, finished its run after season 8. While The CW hasn’t officially announced that season nine of The Flash will be the last one, it’s also being reported that Gustin’s potential contract for season 9 is to end at 15 episodes and last only one year. This would make it a much shorter run than previous seasons and it could potentially be the last one for the actor. Gustin would also get a considerable pay bump for his return as his per-episode salary is believed to be over $200,000.
Gustin has been pretty vocal about wanting to focus more on his personal life, which could be why he did not sign a multi-year deal like some fans would’ve hoped. Deciding things season by season gives Gustin an opportunity to approach a potential return with fresh eyes each year to see if he does indeed want to keep the show going.
Gustin has played the titular character since the show launched in 2014. The series quickly became popular, even rivaling the success of Arrow. Created by Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg, and Geoff Johns, the series also stars Candice Patton, Jesse L. Martin, Danielle Nicolet, Jessica Parker Kennedy, Jordan Fisher, Danielle Panabaker, and Kayla Compton.
