Hard to believe but Scooby-Doo just celebrated fifty years since its inception. Scooby-Doo, Where are you! hit the airwaves on September 13, 1969 and since then there's been multiple TV shows, live-action movies, and merchandise galore. For those of you who were ever interested in an origin story for the mystery loving team of Daphne, Velma, Fred, Shaggy, and their snack loving Great Dane, you are in luck! Next May we'll finally get to see how the gang all came together with SCOOB! and Warner Bros. just dropped a fresh trailer this morning.
Here's an official plot synopsis:
"SCOOB!" reveals how lifelong friends Scobby and Shaggy first met and how they joined with young detectives Fred, Velma, Daphne to form the famous Mystery Inc. Now with hundred of cases solved and adventures shared, Scobby and the gang face their biggest, most challenging mystery ever: a plot ot unleash the ghost dog Cerberus upon the world. As they race to stop this global "dogpocalypse" the gang discovers that Scobby has a secret legacy and an epic destiny greater than anyone imagined.
It also looks as if Shaggy and Scoob will also be encountering aliens in this new adventure. However, if past results are any indication of future outcome, it's more likely that they aren't aliens but Old Man Johnson the owner of the run-down amusement park in a rubber mask. You'd think that with hundreds of cases solved the gang would upgrade the Mystery Machine but then again there's something to be said for the classics.
While I was never a Scooby-Doo fan (I was more of a He-Man, Thundercats guy myself) , a cartoon property that's stuck around fifty years has to be doing something right.
SCOOB! features the voices of Frank Welker (the original voice of Fred and current voice of Scooby-Doo), Zac Efron, Will Forte, Gina Rodriguez, Tracy Morgan, and Amanda Seyfried barks its way into theaters May 15, 2020.
