Grab a hamburger with Pac-Man in this clip from Adam Sandler’s Pixels

We're coming up on the 35th anniversary of Pac-Man and Sony has released the first clip from PIXELS in honour of the big fella. It's nothing entirely new, merely an extension of a scene from the trailers involving Denis Akiyama as Pac-Man creator Tōru Iwatani; but seeing as how it was the only gag that prompted the slightest bit of laughter from me originally…I'll take it.

I'd like to feel a bit more optimistic that PIXELS will actually turn out halfway decent, but Adam Sandler and Kevin James have long burnt out any goodwill they once had with me. However with Chris Columbus taking the helm and a concept that could provide some nice potential for comedy, it's possible the scales may balance out and we'll get a film that's at best harmlessly entertaining.

The film's official synopsis:

When intergalactic aliens misinterpret video-feeds of classic arcade games as a declaration of war against them, they attack the Earth, using the games as models for their various assaults. President Will Cooper (James) has to call on his childhood best friend, ’80s video game champion Sam Brenner (Sandler), now a home theater installer, to lead a team of old-school arcaders (Dinklage and Gad) to defeat the aliens and save the planet.

PIXELS will be invading theaters July 24, 2015.
