What's up Upper East Siders? Gossip Girl here! HBO Max has unveiled the cast and one-word character descriptions for the new reboot headed to the streamer and it looks like these fresh faces are ready to cause all kinds of drama in New York City.
The Gossip Girl reboot is expected to hit HBO Max sometime this year and this is the biggest reveal we've had since the new take was announced back in July of 2019. The only original cast member set to return is Kristen Bell, who will once again voice the unseen and keeper of all juicy high school secrets, "Gossip Girl." You can take a look at the new cast in the Instagram posts featured below:
The new Gossip Girl is set eight years after the original show's finale and follows a new group of Upper East Side teens that are involved in all kinds of new drama. The reboot cast includes Tavi Gevinson, Thomas Doherty, Emily Alyn Lind, Jordan Alexander, Savannah Smith, Zion Moreno, and Evan Mock. Also, a part of the ensemble is Laura Benanti, Adam Chanler-Berat, and Jonathan Fernandez but there were not included in this first batch of cast and character images.
The original Gossip Girl was executive produced by Josh Schwartz, Stephanie Savage, and Joshua Safran, who all return in the same capacity for the reboot, and the series made stars of its talented young cast that included Blake Lively, Leighton Meester, Penn Badgley, Chace Crawford, Taylor Momsen, Ed Westwick, and Jessica Szohr. The show was based on the novels of the same name but Cecily von Ziegesar and it quickly became one of The CW's biggest hits, running from 2007-2012 and 121 episodes. Gossip Girl had been streaming on Netflix until January 1, 2021, when it shifted to the HBO Max streaming service in preparation for the reboot's eventual arrival.
