After barely surviving the massive flop that was THE LONE RANGER, Gore Verbinski is wisely returning to the world of mid-budget horror; his best movie remains the superbly-executed THE RING, so it should be a treat to see him back in the genre. Verbinski’s new thriller, A CURE FOR WELLNESS, was announced way back in October, but we’ve received nada about it in the interim. But that changes today!
Today The Hollywood Reporter announced Verbinski has cast Dane Dehaan (THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2) and Mia Goth in A CURE FOR WELLNESS, which is being produced by New Regency. Furthermore, we finally have a plotline for the flick:
Wellness tells the story of an employee who is sent to rescue his boss from a European “wellness spa” but soon realizes he’s trapped, and discovers that the facility has a more sinister purpose than just serving the health needs of its patients.
Dehaan will play the employee, while Goth will play a longtime patient who is oblivious to the spa director’s dark designs for her.
Production on the film, which was penned by Justin Haythe (who worked on THE LONE RANGER), is slated to begin in Europe this June. 20th Century Fox will distribute.
