Goonies house neighbor tells fans to get off their lawn

Goonies may never say die, but their neighbors say, “GOONIES NOT WELCOME.” That’s what a banner outside a house in the same neighborhood as the famous Goonies house reads.

The news comes not long after the Goonies house went up for sale last November. The buyer of the home, Behman Zakeri, purchased it for $1.65 million, and admitted that he is indeed a major fan of the beloved 1985 adventure movie. The house, located in Astoria, Oregon, has proven to be a major tourist attraction. And that’s precisely why one neighbor is up in arms, protesting the constant traffic in the neighborhood.

Zakeri appears to be remaining civil, but a neighborhood feud seems to be brewing around the Goonies house. The home between Zakeri and the curmudgeonly neighborhood has now hung a sign that reads, “iGNORE KAREN”, with an arrow pointing towards the home in question.

Zakeri has attempted to keep things civil, urging Goonies fans to be respectful when visiting the house. “Let’s not go in the neighbors’ yards. Let’s not mess with their stuff…If they want to come take selfies, if they want to geocache or whatever and say, ‘I was at the Goonies house,’ and do the truffle shuffle, then go right ahead. Just be respectful, just like anything else.”

The new owner of the Goonies house previously stated, “The reason I’m buying it is for the community…Somebody’s got to be the caretaker, somebody’s got to preserve the landmark. Somebody has to keep it original and not get demoed.” Come on, that’s practically a line out of the movie! He also stated explicitly that “Goonies are welcome.”
As noted in a previous article, the Goonies house saw upwards of 1,000 visitors each day during the movie’s 30th anniversary. With the 40th anniversary just a couple of years away, it’s likely that number will only increase. Who knows, maybe it will hit at least 1,002 visitors, as Data (Ke Huy Quan) and Chunk (Jeff Cohen) have kept close, with Cohen helping secure the Everything Everywhere All at Once deal for the Best Supporting Actor nominee.
