It looks like another huge video game property is about to get the big-screen treatment, with it announced today that Mike Dowse, director of GOON, STUBER and COFFEE & KAREEM has signed on to direct a feature film version of the "Just Cause" video game franchise. The adaptation is set to be written by JOHN WICK writer Derek Kolstad.

According to Deadline, "the film will follow the video game’s blueprint, as Rico Rodriguez is on a race-against-time mission to stop the mercenary group The Black Hand. The series draws its name from the real-life United States invasion of Panama, code-named “Operation Just Cause.” Rodriguez (aka “The Scorpion”) has become one of the few Latino iconic video game characters. He has a signature “agent of chaos” approach to taking down the bad guys. There will be a female co-lead giving Just Cause a Romancing The Stone Vibe. the video game series has shipped over 35 million units worldwide."

The film is a Constantin Film (the RESIDENT EVIL franchise) and Prime Universe co-production. While I've never played the game, I'm a big fan of Dowse's as a director. While neither STUBER or COFFEE & KAREEM blew me away, they both had some pretty solid action beats as far as comedies go, and Dowse also did a great job with GOON, the cult classic FUBAR, and a little-seen gem called IT'S ALL GONE PETE TONG.

So who should they cast as Rico Rodriguez? Talkback below!
