Happy 4/20, everybody! Do you know what goes well with a day that celebrates the glorious ganja? A red band trailer for Good Mourning, a stoner comedy that marks the directorial debut of pop-punk musicians Colson Baker (Machine Gun Kelly) and Mod Sun. The Good Mourning trailer is as questionable as you’d expect, with characters and celebrity guest stars getting in on the unruly action.
According to Variety‘s exclusive report, Baker plays movie star London Ransom, whose world is turned upside down when he receives a break-up text from the love of his life on the day of the most important meeting of his career. Compounded by chaotic roommates and wildly unpredictable twists and turns, London’s day keeps going downhill until, ultimately, he is forced to pursue his one true love and land a life-changing starring role in a major motion picture.
Produced by Cedar Park Studios and distributed by Open Road Films, Good Mourning also stars Megan Fox, Becky G, Whitney Cummings, Dove Cameron, GaTa, Zach Villa, and Jenna Boyd, and Boo Johnson, with a special appearance by Pete Davidson.
“We are looking forward to bringing this wild comedy to audiences in theaters and at home on demand. The film is a reminder of how fun movies can be to make and watch,” Tom Ortenberg, CEO of Open Road Films, said. “Colson and this incredible cast will bring audiences to their knees in laughter and leave their jaws on the floor.”
“Our goal at Cedar Park Studios is to provide opportunities to fresh, creative voices in the industry, and we couldn’t be more excited to be working with first-time filmmakers Colson and Mod. Bold in their approach, they have assembled a troupe of top-tier talent to join them on this hilarious ride. We’re ecstatic to be a part of their filmmaking debut,” said Chris Long, co-founder and co-CEO of Cedar Park Studios.
I’ll be straight with you. I don’t know what to think of this one. Will the much-maligned Machine Gun Kelly and Mod Sun deliver a solid stoner comedy to add to the pantheon of films like Dazed and Confused or Cheech Chong’s Up in Smoke? Stranger things have happened. I will admit that dropping this trailer on 4/20 is marketing perfection, and it’s been a while since we’ve seen anyone spark the stoner comedy genre anew. I welcome the opportunity to be pleasantly surprised by Good Mourning and can’t help but wonder what Machine Gun Kelly fans make of this new trailer.
