Goldilocks and the Three Bears: Death and Porridge will be graphic, with head crushing and eye damage

Last month, we unveiled the trailer for writer/director Craig Rees’ film Goldilocks and the Three Bears: Death and Porridge, which puts a horror thriller twist on a classic children’s story. (You can watch that trailer in the embed above.) While we’re still waiting to hear when the film is going to make its way out into the world, Rees has provided The Daily Star with some interesting information, revealing that Goldilocks is going to feature some “pretty graphic” violence, including head crushing and eyeball damage!

Goldilocks and the Three Bears: Death and Porridge has a short and simple synopsis: Never enter into someone’s house without permission.

But most of us already know the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. A young girl called Goldilocks wanders into a house in the woods, helps herself to some porridge, sits in the chairs, tries out the beds. Then the home’s inhabitants – a family of bears – get home and chase her away. Judging by the trailer, it seems Death and Porridge follows a group of characters who settle into a home in the woods… then four people (three wearing bear masks, one wearing a Goldilocks mask) show up to give them grief.

Olha Solomakhina (To Happiness) stars as Goldilocks and is joined in the cast by Julian Amos (Get Millie Black), FlexSingh (Tough World), Jimmy Roberts (Once Upon a Time in Frickley), and newcomers Abigail Huxley and Susan Franks, with Robson Medler (In Pursuit of Repetitive Beats) as Daddy Bear, newcomer Jack Barry as Mama Bear, and special makeup effects artist Grace Darling Smith as Baby Bear.

Rees told The Daily Star, “The first 45 minutes of the film is a psychological thriller, then the last half an hour is pretty graphic! We’ve got eyes being pulled out, heads being crushed – do you know what? I don’t even like all that kind of violence, but [for] these horror fanatics I thought, ‘If it’s gonna be done, let’s go all out. … There’s a scene where Baby Bear throws a grenade at the ‘goodies,’ as it were. I just thought: ‘What the hell! I wanted to do something completely out of the box. There is [a lot of gore], we’ve enhanced practical effects and special effects. With the head crush [scene] – without giving too much away – we did the actual scene with the actor there, his head was right next to the [car] tire.“

Rees compared the first 45 minutes of the film to movies like The Strangers and The Purge.

The filmmaker also told The Daily Star there’s a particular moment seen in the trailer that wasn’t planned. “In the trailer, when (Goldilocks) goes through the window – that was not supposed to happen! So I said to (Olha Solomakhina): ‘Just go up to the window and give them a scare,’ and she went full throttle up to the window. She started grabbing the other actress and I cut the cameras quick, all I saw was someone’s eye. That was quite hair-raising. All I saw was blood, but luckily everyone was okay. She just got into character, I was like: ‘Wow!’“
