When Licence to Kill came out in the summer of 1989, it, unfortunately, marked the end of Timothy Dalton's tenure as James Bond. A significant delay involving behind-the-scenes wheeling and dealing meant a proposed third Dalton film, The Property of a Lady never got off the ground, and when they were finally ready to return to the franchise, he'd moved on.
