Sylvester Stallone said he was retired from the role of Rambo, but now he's in the middle of production on RAMBO 5: LAST BLOOD. Robert Englund said he was retired from the role of Freddy Krueger, but last night he stepped back into the wardrobe and makeup again to appear as Freddy on an episode of the sitcom The Goldbergs… and he must have had a great time playing the character on screen again, for the first time since FREDDY VS. JASON fifteen years ago, because now he's talking like he could be convinced to play Freddy again.
Speaking with Access Online before the Goldbergs episode aired, Englund said,
I think they (New Line Cinema) want to reboot the franchise, but they’re gonna need a new actor. They’re gonna need a new actor to play Freddy because they’re gonna have to do eight of them. I might have one left in me… but yeah."
Fans immediately latched on to the "might have one left in me" line, as it gives a glimmer of hope that Englund might not be retired from the role after all.
While live tweeting during the episode last night, The Goldbergs creator Adam F. Goldberg confirmed that Englund is open to playing Freddy again, and began pushing New Line to make another NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET movie, or perhaps an Elm Street TV series (which Goldberg would obviously like to be involved with), starring Englund.
The box office success of the new HALLOWEEN sequel has definitely proven that there's a hunger to see stars returning to classic franchises, and the return of Robert Englund as Freddy in a new ELM STREET movie would be the next biggest thing to Jamie Lee Curtis returning to HALLOWEEN. HALLOWEEN has made over $100 million in less than a week. Putting an Englund ELM STREET on the fast track would be a wise decision for New Line to make right now.
Dear @newlinecinema, if the new Halloween movie showed us anything this weekend… it's that the world NEEDS horror movie villains. Robert said he'd never be Freddy again, but had so much fun when we shot he's now open to it. I did my job, now you do yours! #TheGoldbergs https://t.co/MnN1Uthk60

Yep. A router outage caused a blackout of my favorite episode EVER. I still loved seeing so many fans geek out seeing @RobertEnglund in the glove again. I wanted our ratings bump to be my case for New Line making another Freddy movie or an epic TV series (hint, hint). SO BUMMED. https://t.co/7cA30VS77X
