Warner Bros. and Legendary Entertainment have worked out the deal that will allow director Adam Wingard's Godzilla vs. Kong to be released in theatres and on the HBO Max streaming service on the same day – and they're celebrating by moving that release date forward by two months. Previously set to be released on May 21, Godzilla vs. Kong will now reach theatres and HBO Max on March 26th.
It's still not clear if Legendary will allow Warner Bros. to move forward with the same release strategy for their film Dune.
Scripted by Mike Dougherty and Terry Rossio, Godzilla vs. Kong has the following synopsis:
In a time when monsters walk the Earth, humanity’s fight for its future sets Godzilla and Kong on a collision course that will see the two most powerful forces of nature on the planet collide in a spectacular battle for the ages. As Monarch embarks on a perilous mission into uncharted terrain and unearths clues to the Titans’ origins, a human conspiracy threatens to wipe the creatures, both good and bad, from the face of the earth forever.
The film stars Alexander Skarsgard, Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, Eiza Gonzalez, Jessica Henwick, Julian Dennison, Demian Bichir, Millie Bobby Brown, Kyle Chandler, Shun Oguri, Godzilla, and Kong.
I'm happy to hear the release is moving up. The sooner I get to watch this movie, the better.
