Godzilla vs. Kong release date jumps forward two months

The legendary face-off between Godzilla and King Kong will be arriving a little sooner than expected as Warner Bros. have announced that the release date of Godzilla vs. Kong will leap forward two months from May 21st to March 26th. As we've certainly become accustomed to seeing release dates getting pushed back over the past year, this is a refreshing change, especially for a highly anticipated film.

Legendary Entertainment and Warner Bros. recently reached a settlement after Legendary was left surprised following Warner's announcement that they would be releasing their entire 2021 slate in theaters and on HBO Max. As Legendary had put a significant amount of money into Godzilla vs. Kong (as well as Denis Villeneuve's Dune), the company was worried that a streaming debut would put a large dent into any money they would receive. The details of the settlement aren't known at this time, but it would seem that both parties are now satisfied. With the release of Godzilla vs. Kong now just over the horizon, I would hope that we'll finally get to see a trailer for the film.

Here's the official logline for Godzilla vs. Kong: "In a time when monsters walk the Earth, humanity’s fight for its future sets Godzilla and Kong on a collision course that will see the two most powerful forces of nature on the planet collide in a spectacular battle for the ages. As Monarch embarks on a perilous mission into uncharted terrain and unearths clues to the Titans’ origins, a human conspiracy threatens to wipe the creatures, both good and bad, from the face of the earth forever." The film, which stars Millie Bobby Brown, Kyle Chandler, Alexander Skarsgard, Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, Zhang Ziyi, Demian Bichir, and Julian Dennison, will now hit theaters and HBO Max on March 26, 2021.
