Writers rooms are all the rage nowadays. A mainstay in the television world, Hollywood has become keen on bringing a large group of writers together to help craft a franchise of films. Cinematic universes are the priority. TRANSFORMERS has one. AVATAR has one. And now Legendary's Monsterverse has one.
As KONG: SKULL ISLAND opens, it has been revealed that the studio is assembling a bevy of scribes to help guide GODZILLA VS. KONG, which will bring Warner Bros./Legendary's two bad boys together in an epic throwdown three years from now.
Leading the team is Terry Rossio, who had a hand in writing four PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN movies and who, ironically, co-wrote the story for 1998's horrendous GODZILLA.
Along with Rossio in the writers room are: Patrick McKay and J.D. Payne (STAR TREK BEYOND), Lindsey Beer (the upcoming DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS movie), Cat Vasko, T.S. Nowlin (PACIFIC RIM: UPRISING) and longtime TV and movie genre writer J. Michael Straczynski (BABYLON 5, SENSE8, THOR).
A cynic might wonder, "Why do you need so many writers to figure out a movie called GODZILLA VS. KONG," but I'm not cynical.
GODZILLA VS. KONG has set a May 29, 2020 release date, a little over a year after GODZILLA: KING OF MONSTERS stomps into theaters.
