As a lover of bad movies, GOD'S NOT DEAD is a pretty good one. Melodramatic acting, subplots that go nowhere (literally in the case of one about a car that won't start), amateurish production values, and an incomprehensible message (Pastor Dave, why don't you convert the atheist after you call an ambulance?) The second one is somehow even more bonkers. And look, before anyone gets the wrong idea, I have no problem with films that deal with faith. Some are even great films, like LAST TEMPTATION OF CHRIST, PASSION OF THE CHRIST, DOGMA, and many more. So it's not the fact these films deal with God or faith that make them bad – they're just bad movies, regardless if you believe or not.
Anyway, with that being said, the success of the first two GOD'S NOT DEAD films makes a third in the franchise inevitable. According to David A.R. White, the co-founder of the faith-based studio Pure Flix (the studio that brought us GOD'S NOT DEAD), and who also played the aforementioned Pastor Dave:
Yes. We are working [on the sequel]. I don’t know if you saw the Easter egg in GOD'S NOT DEAD 2 by any chance. If you sat through the credits, there’s was that little scene on there that really leads into what GOD'S NOT DEAD 3 is about. So yeah, we are in the planning stages for it. We’ve just been in a lot of prayer and trying to figure out exactly what God wants number 3 to be. Because you know we don't just want to just do what we want to do, we really want to follow where God is leading on these movies.
At the end credits of GOD'S NOT DEAD 2, David A.R. White’s Pastor Dave is arrested and told he will have to hand his sermons over to the police. So this is what GOD'S NOT DEAD 3 will supposedly be about? I'm confused, but then again I'm not a crazy person.
Either way though, I'm excited. Each film seems to be getting exponentially more and more goofy and insane, and I can't wait for God to get back to White so we can see where this new film goes!
