Cue the heavenly music. Netflix has released the first trailer for God’s Favorite Idiot, a new comedy series starring Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone. After being hit by a bolt of lightning from above, mid-level tech support employee Clark Thompson (Falcone) becomes the unwitting messenger of God and finds love with co-worker Amily Luck (McCarthy).

Ben Falcone created God’s Favorite Idiot and also executive produces alongside Melissa McCarthy. Just judging by the trailer, God’s Favorite Idiot looks similar to Ben Falcone’s other collaborations with McCarthy, so if Tammy, The Boss, Life of the Party, and Thunder Force were to your liking, then this series will be as well. In addition to Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone, God’s Favorite Idiot also star Kevin Dunn, Usman Ally, Steve Mallory, Chris Sandiford, Ana Scotney, and Yanic Truesdale. The series also features Leslie Bibb as Satan, who just so happens to be your run-of-the-mill demonic entity looking to destroy the world and upset the cosmic balance between heaven and hell, with only Clark and his friends standing in her way.

The official synopsis for God’s Favorite Idiot:

Clark Thompson (Ben Falcone) is a mid-level tech support employee, who takes saunas with his dad, Gene (Kevin Dunn), pines after his co-worker Amily (Melissa McCarthy), and loves his cats. When he starts to glow, he begins to realize this isn’t an average day at the office and God has bigger plans for him. Clark can’t save mankind by himself, he must gather his flock of mismatched co-workers, his longtime crush Amily and angelic allies to outwit Satan herself (Leslie Bibb). Together, they’re just a bunch of average humans coming together for the greater good because, after all, you can’t save the world alone.

The first eight episodes of God’s Favorite Idiot will debut on Netflix on July 15, 2022.
