Director Josh Boone's X-MEN horror movie THE NEW MUTANTS was supposed to hit the big screen back on April 13, 2018. Then it was delayed a whopping 10 months to February 22, 2019, before Fox eventually pushed the film back another six months to its current August 2, 2019 release date. And now Disney has taken control of the Fox property and we're hearing that the House of Mouse is evidently "unimpressed" with the flick.
Specifically, a recent article over on Variety states the studio is
unimpressed with “New Mutants,” an “X-Men” spinoff with a haunted-house vibe, and believes it has limited box office potential.
"Limited box office potential," you say? No sh*t, Sherlock. I mean, I hate to be the one to say it but, by this point in time, I can't imagine there are many X-MEN fans out there that are still looking forward to checking out this movie – especially following this summer's mega-super flop DARK PHOENIX.
But all the same, if the movie gets released, it will introduce
a diverse cadre of teens learning to cope with their superpowers. These new mutants find themselves held in a secret facility against their will and must battle the dangers of their powers, as well as the sins of their past.
THE NEW MUTANTS is directed by Josh Boone (THE FAULT IN OUR STARS) from a screenplay he co-wrote along with Knate Lee based on the comic series by Chris Claremont and Bob McLeod. Simon Kinberg, Karen Rosenfelt, and Lauren Shuler Donner produced the movie which stars Anya Taylor-Joy, Maisie Williams, Charlie Heaton, Henry Zaga, Blu Hunt, and Alice Braga. Supposedly, Disney now plans to unleash the film on the masses sometime this year. Possibly on August 2, 2019. But really, who knows? We'll pass along word once we hear anything. As always.
