Go figure, David Harbour doesn’t think there will be a Hellboy 2

Director Neil Marshall's HELLBOY reboot starring David Harbour, Milla Jovovich, and Ian McShane is all set to punch its ungodly way onto digitally and Blu-ray/DVD next month (pre-order HERE). And today we have some sadish (if expected) news straight from Harbour himself that says there will most likely NOT be a sequel to his recent HELLBOY reboot. Go figure.

Harbour admits

I don't think there'll be much of a light. There's a lot of people who reach out to me who really loved it and really enjoyed the new take and were just happy to see him back on the screen, but I know in the culture at large, I don't think it was very well received.

He continues:

I don't think it made a lot of money. I don't keep up with those things too much, to be honest, but I don't think the perception was that it was a hit, and so in that way, I don't know that the risk is worth it. I think the idea is to move on. The producers spoke to me just saying 'Great job,' they really liked what I did, but I haven't heard anything about a sequel, and I'm not hanging my hat on anything like that.

This version of the classic comic book character has been rated R for "strong bloody violence and gore throughout and language" and is written by Andrew Cosby, Christopher Golden, Aron Coleite, and Hellboy creator Mike Mignola.

This reboot finds Hellboy:

along with his team of paranormal researchers, trying to save the world from a medieval sorceress who wants to destroy humankind.

I know this reboot has been getting more than its fair share of haters over the past few months, but I still can't help myself from wanting to see it as soon as possible. But I think I'm going to go ahead and place some faith in Marshall and all the other creatives behind the scenes and spring for the movie on Blu-ray. Hell, maybe some deleted scenes or alternated scenes will change the course of the movie. Hope springs eternal after all!

Harbour's co-stars include Milla Jovovich as the villainous Nimue, Queen of Blood, Ian McShane as Hellboy's mentor Professor Broom, Sasha Lane as his love interest Alice Monaghan, Penelope Mitchell as the elder witch Ganeida, Daniel Dae Kim as Major Ben Daimio (who can turn into a jaguar), Sophie Okonedo as the seer Lady Hatton, Alistair Petrie as Lord Adam Glaren of the supernatural mystery investigating Osiris Club, and Brian Gleeson as the wizard Merlin. HELLBOY will be getting released digitally on July 9th ahead of home media July 23rd.
