In just a couple of days, we will see California utterly destroyed with only Dwayne Johnson to save us. Breck Eisner‘s SAN ANDREAS is very different than all of the other offerings this summer in that it is not based on a comic book or serve as a sequel. In fact, I don’t think there is much of a way to make a franchise out of SAN ANDREAS. Instead, it is a good, old-fashioned disaster epic with modern day special effects.
There isn’t much more needed to sell audiences on seeing SAN ANDREAS at this point. Fans of Johnson, Alexandra Daddario, and Carla Gugino are already locked in as are the folks who like their mayhem and carnage on a massive scale. There is no escaping what happens in the movie and this final trailer attests to that. Accompanied by a melancholy cover of “California Dreamin'”, this brief trailer showcases the spectacle of SAN ANDREAS as well as the after-effects of what the earthquake does to Cali.
I fully anticipate that SAN ANDREAS will be the number one movie at the box office this weekend regardless of how good or bad it is. I just hope that there is more to it than collapsing buildings and massive casualties. But, then again, I am also good with Carla Gugino and Alexandra Daddario running in slow motion, so this is a win-win scenario for me.
SAN ANDREAS opens this Friday.
