Marc Maron, who stars as the creator of Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling, Sam Sylivia, on Netflix's GLOW, is reportedly in talks to join the cast of Todd Phillips' JOKER movie starring Joaquin Phoenix. According to sources close to Variety, Maron would enter the film as a booking agent on Robert De Niro's talk show who plays a part in scheduling Phoenix's character, and contributes to the comedian eventually becoming the Jester of Genocide. In other recent news related to the villain-centric motion picture, Robert De Niro and Frances Conroy have also joined the cast. DEADPOOL 2 star Zazie Beetz is also rumored to star.
In what we know about the film so far, is that Phillips' JOKER will be presented as a tale outside of DC's core cinematic universe, where Jared Leto is still expected to return as the Clown Prince of Crime in future DC films. It's also been said that Leto will eventually go on to star in his own stand-alone movie, because apparently the world can never have enough Joker-related projects, right?
Maron has been a player of stage and screen for over 15 years, with a score of films, TV apperances, and comedy specials to his name. Most recently, Maron has been celebrated for his work on Netflix's GLOW, where he plays Sam Sylvia, a character based on the real creator of GLOW, Matt Cimber. Beyond his work related to the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling, Cimber is also an acclaimed B-movie director, whose blaxploitation films have been hailed as some of Samuel L. Jackson's favorites of the genre.
JOKER is expected to take the cinematic stage on October 4, 2019.
