Glenn Danzig to write, direct, compose score for Verotika anthology movie

This month marks the twenty-fourth anniversary of the creation of the comic book company Verotik, which was founded by musician Glenn Danzig – the vocalist for the bands The Misfits, Samhain, and Danzig. So it's a fitting time to learn that Danzig has closed a deal with Cleopatra Entertainment to write, direct, and compose the score for an anthology film titled VEROTIKA, based on characters that have been featured in Verotik comic books published by Danzig's company.

It hasn't been revealed which characters will be in the film, only that it will consist of

three individual storylines.

Thirteen years ago, Danzig was working on a film based on the Verotik character Ge-Rouge, a film which would have told the following story:

The movie takes place in New Orleans at the turn of the 20th century and tells the story of Papa John Carrefour, who believed he was the baddest Voodoo. But then a young Ge-Rouge came to town and started getting more and more attention. Papa John was jealous so he set up Ge Rouge to have him murdered and succeeded at giving him a swamp grave.

Years later a girl named Kulev finds the body of Ge Rouge and he is brought back to life. Just thinking about revenge, he makes Kulev his Voodoo Queen. Together they now want to kill Papa John Carrefour. But Papa John sends Zombies after the two to stop them….

The Ge-Rouge movie never got off the ground, so maybe Danzig will work some of that into VEROTIK.

Verotik titles are aimed at mature audiences, "as they often contain imagery of a sexual and/or violent nature." In fact, the name "Verotik" was created by Danzig by combining the words "violent" and "erotic". I have never read a Verotik comic, but I just found out that it's tough to find an image from these comics that don't have an ass or a nipple drawn on them.

A Verotik comic book called GRUB GIRL served as the basis of a porn movie that was released in 2006.

The VEROTIKA anthology film is expected to go into production this fall. We'll keep you updated as more information is revealed.
