Amazon has announced that the half-hour pilot episode of the zombie comedy Sea Oak will be available for viewing through their Amazon Prime Video service as of November 10th.
Starring Glenn Close and EVIL DEAD 2013 / DON'T BREATHE's Jane Levy, the pilot is a "a mix of zombie drama and family revenge comedy" that
revolves around Aunt Bernie (Close), a meek, unmarried woman with no children in working-class Rust Belt City who dies tragically in a home invasion. Compelled by sheer force of dissatisfaction, she comes back from the dead full of rage and determined to get the life she never had. She proceeds to inflict a range of demands on what's left of her nuclear family, including a quasi-stripper nephew and two feckless nieces, who live in a low-end subsidized hellhole of a housing complex called Sea Oak.
George Saunders wrote the pilot, based on his short story. The episode was directed by Hiro Murai, who also serves as executive producer with Jonathan Krauss and Evan Dunsky. Lael Smith and Keir McFarlane co-executive produced.
Dunsky will serve as showrunner if Amazon gives Sea Oak a series order, but they will only do that if the pilot gets a positive response from viewers. I will definitely be checking it out to see if I think it has what it takes to make an interesting series.
