Netflix had a major hit on their hands with Rian Johnson’s follow-up to Knives Out, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery premiering last December. So much so that it even did gangbusters in a special theater preview just a month prior. Rian Johnson has even stated that he is concentrating on the third entry in the Knives Out series as his next project.

Now, Netflix has made available the film with the director’s commentary. ScreenRant reports on the Netflix official Twitter posting the announcement that today, viewers of the film can now revisit the Glass Onion mystery in a more insightful fashion. The tweet consisted of a single line from Daniel Craig’s Benoit Blanc, I keep returning, in my mind, to the Glass Onion… and accompanying it with a new poster for the film that advertises the commentary from Rian Johnson.

This isn’t the first time the famed streaming platform has featured an additional audio track for director’s commentary, however none of the previous films were given explicit attention and announcement. Netflix, keeping its eye on the future, looks to be using Glass Onion as a guinea pig for newer methods to distribute their original films. Glass Onion was given a surprise preview engagement for one week in November to both build hype and make it eligible for awards consideration.

The theater reception was so positive that Johnson was disappointed Netflix refused to bend their schedule plans to include just one more week for people to see it as a real cinema experience. The director is still riding high on the Agatha Christie-inspired franchise. When he decided to go straight to the third installment, Johnson told Empire, “I’m making the next [Benoit Blanc movie] next because it’s the most exciting thing right now to me. That’s served me really well. I feel like any movie I’m making, I need to be making it because I can’t imagine doing anything else. I’m jumping into the next Benoit Blanc next because I can’t think about another story. I’ve got a big cloud of ideas, but it hasn’t all snapped into focus yet. It’s exciting, though, and it’s very, very different from this one. That’s what I’m excited about.“
