The 2000 film Ginger Snaps (watch it HERE) is my all-time favorite werewolf movie. That was followed by a sequel – Ginger Snaps 2: Unleashed – and a very unexpected prequel – Ginger Snaps Back: The Beginning – and while I’m not as enamored with them as I am with the original movie, I do get some enjoyment out of watching them. The oddball prequel especially. If you’re a fan of Ginger Snaps trilogy as well and happen to have a Region B (or region free) Blu-ray player, you’ll be glad to hear that Second Sight Films is packaging all three movies together in a limited edition UK box set that’s going to be released on October 30th. Just in time for Halloween, which happens to be the setting of the first movie.
Copies of the Ginger Snaps trilogy Blu-ray box set can be pre-ordered directly from Second Sight Films.
Directed by John Fawcett from a screenplay by Karen Walton, Ginger Snaps has the following synopsis: Ginger and Brigitte, two sisters trapped in suburbia, are obsessed with mayhem, torture and death until they get a taste of the real thing. Bitten by a wild animal, Ginger begins to mutate into a sexy, uncontrolled woman, with some nasty canine tendencies. Is it a virus? Is it a curse? Or the first step towards becoming a vicious werewolf?
The film stars Emily Perkins, Katharine Isabelle, Kris Lemche, Mimi Rogers, Jesse Moss, Danielle Hampton, John Bourgeois, Peter Keleghan, Lindsay Leese, and Pak-Kong Ho.
Brett Sullivan directed Ginger Snaps 2: Unleashed from a screenplay by Megan Martin. That one has the following synopsis: Bereaved Brigitte relies on a drug to keep her lycanthropy at bay. Mistaken for an addict, she is forced into a rehab clinic for teen girls. Once there she must go to extremes to guarantee her supply continues. Making the situation even more grave is the fact another werewolf is on her trail.
Perkins and Isabelle return and are joined in the cast by Tatiana Maslany, Eric Johnson, Janet Kidder, Brendan Fletcher, Susan Adam, Chris Fassbender, Pascale Hutton, Michelle Beaudoin, David McNally, Shaun Johnston, and Patricia Idlette.
Ginger Snaps Back: The Beginning was directed by Grant Harvey from a screenplay by Stephen Massicotte and Christina Ray. The synopsis: In early 19th-century Canada, orphaned sisters Ginger and Brigitte find themselves lost in a forest while riding on horseback. They’re rescued by The Hunter, a mysterious Native American who takes them back to Fort Bailey. Something strange has happened there, however. The few settlers who remain are suspicious of outsiders and keep tight-lipped about the situation, but Ginger soon discovers their secret for herself.
For that one, Perkins and Isabelle were joined in the cast by Nathaniel Arcand, JR Bourne, Hugh Dillon, Adrien Dorval,
Brendan Fletcher, David La Haye, Tom McCamus, Matthew Walker, Fabian Bird, Kirk Jarrett, David MacInnis, and Stevie Mitchell.
