Gina Carano says Lucasfilm pulled her from The Mandalorian press junket

As the saga of Gina Carano continues, the actress wants to make sure that fans know her side of the story. It was just last week when it was announced that Carano, who played Rebel shock-trooper Cara Dune on The Mandalorian, would no longer be employed by Lucasfilm due to a series of controversial social media posts. Since being let go from the Star Wars spin-off show, Carano has been dropped by the UTA (United Talent Agency) and had her upcoming action figure canceled by Hasbro. Now she's has spoken with former New York Times writer Bari Weiss, revealing that she was given no warning about her firing and found out on social media that her relationship with Lucasfilm was terminated.

Carano's troubles began last year when the #FireGinaCarano movement began on Twitter after the actress was believed to be mocking transgender pronouns by including “Beep/bop/boop” as a part of her profile bio. According to Carano, Lucasfilm demanded that she share a company-written apology for her actions, but she declined.

“Earlier on last year before ‘The Mandalorian’ came out, they wanted me to use their exact wording for an apology over pronoun usage,” Carano said. “I declined and offered a statement in my own words. I made clear I wanted nothing to do with mocking the transgender community, and was just drawing attention to the abuse of the mob in forcing people to put pronouns in their bio.”

Naturally, Lucasfilm was not pleased with Carano refusing to "play ball," and so the company began excluding her from all press and promotion for The Mandalorian Season 2 as a form of consequence.

“That was heartbreaking, but I didn’t want to take away from the hard work of everyone who worked on the project, so I said ok,” Carano added. “That was the last time I was contacted about any type of public statement or apology from Lucasfilm. I found out through social media, like everyone else, that I had been fired.”

Although Gina Carano will no longer be involved with Lucasfilm and has been dropped as a client by UTA, she already has another project in the works as she recently revealed that she's developing a new film with The Daily Wire, a conservative news website. "The Daily Wire is helping make one of my dreams — to develop and produce my own film — come true," Carano said. "I cried out and my prayer was answered. I am sending out a direct message of hope to everyone living in fear of cancellation by the totalitarian mob. I have only just begun using my voice which is now freer than ever before, and I hope it inspires others to do the same. They can’t cancel us if we don’t let them."  Before having the ax dropped on her burgeoning career with Lucasfilm, smoke on the street suggested that the studio was planning on giving Cara Dune a standalone show of her own. That project is no longer happening, with Carano's Star Wars character now being unceremoniously tossed into a proverbial Sarlacc Pit.
