Now that Mel Gibson is done exposing the Mayan civilization for the brutal, self-destructive cannibals that they were, he’s apparently setting his sights on filming his next savage, non-English epic in Panama. He was recently in the country meeting with Panamanian filmmaker Jose Severino on a film that would center on Spanish explorer Vasco Nunez de Balboa. He also apparently snuck in a little time to meet with a local singer and tourism spokesman who suggested he remake the 1950 noir film PANIC IN THE STREET, which was set in Panama. As long as he maintains his strict non-English policy and ensures there’s enough brutal savagery and historical inaccuracies in the film to drive critics and experts absolutely crazy, we’ll all be happy.
