The first season of The Mandalorian introduced us to The Child, a young Force-sensitive toddler from the same species as Yoda who fell under the protection of the titular Mandalorian (Pedro Pascal). The Child is being hunted by a variety of individuals, including Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito), who leads a remnant of the Galactic Empire and desires The Child for reasons unknown. The upcoming second season of The Mandalorian will start to answer a few of the mysteries presented in the first season, but it would seem that some of the big answers will be saved for the third and fourth season of the series.
While speaking with People during the pre-show for the Emmy Awards, Giancarlo Esposito said that "The next season of The Mandalorian is going to be very interesting because you’re going to start to find out the power of The Child, what The Child really means. You will also start to uncover the origins of the Darksaber that Moff Gideon has and how that plays into previous Star Wars history connected to The Clone Wars and other shows. And you’ll start to get a real dramatic sense of the territory. " Esposito continued, saying, "We’re living in a universe that’s huge, and there’s so much to explore. So I think this show is going to start to lay the groundwork for the depth and breadth that’s going to come in season 3 and season 4, where you’re really gonna start to get answers." While we've known that a third season of The Mandalorian was on the way for quite some time, this is the first we've heard of a fourth season of the series, but given how popular The Mandalorian has become, it's not exactly a big surprise that Disney/Lucasfilm have long-term plans for the show.
The second season of The Mandalorian will debut on Disney+ on October 30, 2020.
