We didn't get to see all that much of Giancarlo Esposito as Moff Gideon in the first season of The Mandalorian, but the character certainly made an impact. Not only did Moff Gideon nearly bring the Mandalorian (Pedro Pascal) down, but it was also revealed that he had the Darksaber in his possession, a legendary weapon in Mandalorian culture which is very familiar to fans of Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels.

Typically, but not always, most characters who have successfully wielded some form of lightsaber have had some degree of Force sensitivity, and while speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Giancarlo Esposito teased that Moff Gideon may be Force sensitive.

To have this saber means I could use it, and I can do my own dirty work, that I'm a fighter, I'm a warrior, that's part of me, also creates the possibility that he is, ya know, one of the ones, ya know, like, he possibly has that, and that to me is interesting. Because, is he really that fallen hero? Is he a descendant of Darth Vader? Who is he? What does he want? He knows all about everything, and you'll have to wait to find out. He's actually pretty good with that darksaber too.

As Moff Gideon seems to have a particular interest in The Child, who is quite Force sensitive, it stands to reason that Gideon has at least a passing familiarity with the Force, but with all things Star Wars-related, we'll have to wait until something official is revealed before we know for sure. Esposito also said that getting to use the Darksaber is "such an honour" as "very few have wielded that saber." The second season of The Mandalorian is still expected to debut later this year, with a few very interesting additions to the cast, including Michael Biehn (THE TERMINATOR) as "a bounty hunter from The Mando's past," Katee Sackhoff (Battlestar Galactica) as Bo-Katan Kryze, a Mandalorian warrior, Temuera Morrison (AQUAMAN) as Boba Fett, and Timothy Olyphant (Deadwood) as Cobb Vanth, a character introduced in Chuck Wendig's "Aftermath" series who wears Boba Fett's armour. There have also been major rumours which have pointed to Rosario Dawson (Daredevil) playing Ahsoka Tano, the former Jedi Padawan of Anakin Skywalker who turned into a spymaster for the Rebel Alliance. The second season of The Mandalorian is expected to debut on Disney+ in October 2020.
