G.I. Joe producer says Transformers movie crossover is just a matter of time

Paramount film producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura is gearing up for this weekend's release of Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins but he's also largely responsible for the live-action film adaptation of the Transformers film franchise as well. Since both come from two very popular Hasbro brands, Bonaventura believes that a live-action movie crossover is inevitable.

While speaking with "Uproxx", Bonaventura responded to rumors of a crossover between G.I. Joe and Transformers actually happening. While the odds are stacked against it since the idea has repeatedly been shot down by Paramount executives, he believes that we will get the crossover someday:

“You know, the truth of matter is, the studio has always been against that. Every regime that’s been at Paramount is against it because it’s taking two franchises and making them one, but I think it’s inevitable.”

Rumors of a Jurassic World/Fast & Furious crossover also was brought up in the same interview and Bonaventura believes that the success of these hypothetical crossover films could pave the way for these projects at other studios. While adding that past crossovers like Alien vs. Predator failed, he believes that they could be executed well. Bonaventura even went as far as to name-drop director Steven Caple, who is currently helming Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, as someone who could make a viable G.I. Joe/Transformers crossover.

At this point, Paramount needs to focus on reinventing these franchises individually before even thinking of crossing them over. Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins is a step in the right direction to wash away the non-stop mediocre toy action of the first two live-action G.I. Joe films while Transformers: Rise of the Beasts has its work cut out for it to make that brand more than a series of mindless action and explosions. This clearly can be done. Bumblebee was a refreshing take on the Transformers brand that did a lot to restore goodwill with that franchise but more of these films need to succeed before we can think of sequels, let alone crossover hybrid films.

Do YOU think a live-action G.I. Joe and Transformers crossover would work?
