It was only yesteday when we brought you some potential character details for the long-awaited GHOSTBUSTERS 3, which Sony is soldiering on to get in front of the cameras soon, even though Bill Murray reportedly wants no part of it and we lost an original 'Buster in Harold Ramis earlier this year. The idea, from what we have been hearing for a while, is to pass the torch to a younger generation of Ghostbusters, and we might start hearing casting news on the sequel front because the start date for GHOSTBUSTERS 3 has been pegged for Fall 2014 or, at the latest, Spring 2015, according to original 'Buster Ernie Hudson.
Hudson recently spoke with Film Dumpster at the Niagara Falls Comic-Con and confirmed that the sequel is "definitely happening," with the intention of starting around that time. He shares…
"I think we're going to start shooting in the fall, or maybe the spring…once again, it kind of changes a bit…and I'm always reluctant to say anything because they tell me one thing and then it doesn't happen."
With Ernie Hudson talking about a shooting schedule, are we to assume that he and possibly Dan Aykroyd will be the two remaining cast members representing the original team? That seems likely unless Bill Murray can be convinced to rejoin the group. Hudson also comments on the passing of Ramis, sharing…
"It's unfortune, you know, Harold is not here. Harold was the glue…he was amazing. He was an icon. So you're going to get a GHOSTBUSTERS, but obviously it's going to be a GHOSTBUSTERS without Harold.
It's going to be different. So it [part 3] has to be original and it has to be something that is worth all the 30 years of waiting. "
Screenwriter Etan Cohen recently revealed that he and Reitman are, "together for hours every week, working on it really closely," on the script while also revealing that Dan Aykroyd is overseeing the writing process. Let's hope they can deliver a film that lives up to the spirit of the original films.
