Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed trailer takes paranormal pandemonium to the multiplayer stage

Grab your Ecto Goggles and a Proton Pack because it’s time to bust some ghosts! Developer IllFonic dropped the first trailer for Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed, a new multiplayer video game that aims to make bustin’ feel good for everyone. The trailer opens with Winston Zeddemore (Ernie Hudson) as the new head of the Ghostbusters organization. Dressed in a fine-ass suit, Winston explains that he’s recruiting the next generation of paranormal investigators, and he wants you to be a part of the team. Also included in the trailer is Ray Stantz (Dan Aykroyd), who owns an occult bookstore. The trailer reveals some intense-looking gameplay as the four-versus-one multiplayer game allows players to enter the fray as both ghost hunters and ghosts.

In the game, players take up residence in the original Ghostbusters firehouse. You can customize the base by unlocking content throughout your adventure. The game also features a robust character creator with lots of options for players of all kinds. Human characters are controlled from a first-person perspective, while ghosts are manipulated in third-person. That’s right, kids! Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed lets you play as ghosts as well! While playing as a ghost, players will be able to see through walls thanks to an ability called Ghost Vision. In other words, get ready to slime your targets as they try to remove you from the mortal realm.

Video games based on the Ghostbusters franchise haven’t always taken off. Thankfully, Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed looks like it’s putting the best aspects of being a Ghostbuster front and center. With lots of ways to customize your character, cool environments to explore, and the option to play as the ghosts themselves, this could be the interactive experience fans have been waiting for. I’m going to keep my fingers crossed that this game plays as well as it looks in the trailer.
