Ghostbusters: Ernie Hudson confirms a new video game is in the works

Before this year’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife, the closest thing Ghostbusters fans had to the proper sequel to the first two Ghostbusters movies was the video game that was released in 2009 and brought the whole original ghostbusting crew – Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, and Ernie Hudson – back as their iconic characters. Now that Ghostbusters: Afterlife has successfully revived the original Ghostbusters continuity in the film world, Hudson has confirmed that another video game is in the works as well.

During a Q&A at the Celebrity Fan Fest in San Antonio, Texas, Hudson said (with thanks to GhostbustersNews.com for the transcript):

I just got an e-mail, because we’re doing another video game. They’re scheduling it now to do the recording, and I’m not too sure who going to do it, I know me and Danny (Dan Aykroyd), I think. I’m not sure about Billy (Bill Murray) will do anything on it. So, there will be another video game. When they’ll bring it out, I don’t know, but it’s definitely happening.”

Hudson went on to talk about approving his likeness for the games:

They’ve been sending me prototypes of the character to get the image right, which they seem to have a hard time somehow creating my image. It’s so weird to me that they can get Bill Murray, and Dan Aykroyd, and Harold Ramis to look exactly like they look, but I end up looking like Eddie Murphy or somebody.”

There’s no official word on which companies are working on the new Ghostbusters game, but Illfonic co-founder Raphael Saadiq apparently let it slip that Illfonic is involved during an interview on the Questlove Supreme podcast.

I’m glad to hear that fans of the franchise will have another game to play, hopefully before too long… and also surprised to hear that it’s already been twelve years since the release of Ghostbusters: The Video Game. I always wanted to play that game, especially with fans and Aykroyd describing it as “essentially the third movie”, but have just never gotten around to it.
