Lately there's been some confusion as to when Sony plans to let a trailer for GHOSTBUSTERS: AFTERLIFE out of containment, but now thanks to an informative article posted by Vanity Fair, we have a confirmation as to when we'll get our first look at the franchise's hotly-anticipated return.
According to Vanity Fair, the first official trailer for GHOSTBUSTERS: AFTERMATH will arrive on Monday, December 9th. Earlier this week, the British Board of Film Classification listed the trailer as having a runtime of 2 minutes and 28 seconds. I don't know about you, but that sounds as if we'll get a real good look Jason Reitman's upcoming film, which stars Carrie Coon, McKenna Grace, Finn Wolfhard, and Paul Rudd as the latest group to discover what makes "bustin'" feel so good.

Acting as a proper sequel to director Ivan Reitman's 1984 original movie, GHOSTBUSTERS: AFTERLIFE will find Coon's character, Callie, and her two children, the science-obsessed Phoebe (Grace) and gearhead Trevor (Wolfhard), moving to a small town in Oklahoma after inheriting property from the father Callie's estranged father. As for Rudd, the ANT-MAN actor will star as Mr. Grooberson, who was a kid when the spooky events of the original GHOSTBUSTERS had occurred. In the film, Mr. Grooberson is a summer school teacher who's remained obsessed with what history has dubbed the “Manhattan Crossrip”, a “technical term for that long-ago bizarre incident in New York involving an apocalypse-summoning skyscraper, a gargantuan killer marshmallow man, and four working stiffs who managed to fight back against an ancient Sumerian God named Gozer.”
“As the family arrives at an old farm, they begin to discover their connection to the original Ghostbusters,” Reitman revealed Vanity Fair. “Trevor and Phoebe are about to find out who their grandfather was and whether they’re ready to pick up the proton pack themselves.”
Okay, GHOSTBUSTERS fans, it's time to place your bets! Who do you think Phoebe and Trevor's grandfather will turn out to be? Bill Murray's Dr. Peter Venkman? Dan Aykroyd's Dr. Ray Stantz? Or perhaps the late Harold Ramis' Dr. Egon Spangler? I honestly have no idea who it will turn out to be, but I'll be damned if I can't wait to find out.
GHOSTBUSTERS: AFTERLIFE will be unleashed in theaters on July 10, 2020.
