Ghostbusters: Afterlife release delayed, but only one week

Just minutes after Paramount announced that they are delaying the release of Top Gun: Maverick, pushing the film back from November 19, 2020 to May 27, 2022, Sony announced that they are delaying the release of Ghostbusters: Afterlife – but it’s only a one week delay. Previously set to reach theatres on November 11th, Ghostbusters: Afterlife will now has the release date the Top Gun sequel vacated, November 19th. The Thanksgiving holiday is on November 25th this year, so Ghostbusters: Afterlife will now get to enjoy those holiday bucks without facing the competition of Top Gun.

The film was previously delayed three times due to the pandemic. It was originally supposed to be released on July 10, 2020. It was then moved to March 5, 2021, then June 11, 2021, and finally November 11, 2021.

Directed by Jason Reitman, who is the son of Ghostbusters (watch it HERE) and Ghostbusters II (watch that one HERE) director Ivan Reitman, Ghostbusters: Afterlife stars Mckenna Grace, Finn Wolfhard, and Carrie Coon as

a family with single mom Callie and her two kids, Trevor and Phoebe, who move into a beaten-down farmhouse in Oklahoma only to discover that there’s something strange in the neighborhood. Unexplained quakes shake the town. There’s an old mine nearby that bears the name of Ivo Shandor, who built the Manhattan high-rise in the 1984 film that channeled the forces of evil. 

Paul Rudd plays “a local teacher who’s been documenting the unexplained phenomena, befriending Callie and her kids, and helping make the connection between the current weirdness and the events of three decades before”. Celeste O’Connor, Logan Kim, Bokeem Woodbine, Tracy Letts, and Oliver Cooper are also in the cast, with Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Annie Potts, and Sigourney Weaver reprising their roles from the original films.

Ivan Reitman produced Ghostbusters: Afterlife, with Aykroyd serving as executive producer alongside Jason Blumenfeld, Michael Beugg, Aaron L. Gilbert, Jason Cloth, and Gil Kenan, who wrote the screenplay with Jason Reitman.
