Whether this is an attempt by Sony to deflect criticism from GHOST RIDER or not, late last week producer Avi Arad announced development on a sequel to the comic-to-film flick starring Nicholas Cage. Director Mark Steven Johnson confirmed Arad’s words that a sequel is being planned, which also gives the impression that he’d be returning as well as Cage.
All this comes as earlier in the week, Sony stated that the film wouldn’t be screened for critics until late Thursday night, which sends everyone’s spidey-sense tingling and running for the washroom. If what Johnson and Arad say is true, GHOST RIDER 2 could be streamlined for a 2009 release, though it really all depends on how the first film does when it hits this Friday, doesn’t it?
