British actor Sean Pertwee has joined the ranks of fellow thesps Michael Caine, Michael Gough, and soon-to-be Jeremy Irons (in BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN) to portray Alfred Pennyworth, the resourceful and dedicated butler to Bruce Wayne/Batman. Pertwee will portray the character for Fox’s Gotham series, where he will act as the protector of the recently orphaned Bruce Wayne (played by David Mazouz) and today we have our first official look at Pertwee, playing an obviously younger version of the character.
Alfred’s description for the show is:
A tough-as-nails ex-marine from East London, Pennyworth has loyally served the Wayne family. Now, in the wake of their tragic deaths, he’s fiercely protective of the young Bruce Wayne — the boy who will eventually become Batman.
It’s been cool seeing this develop and equally cool seeing the various reveal roll in as they shoot the pilot for Gotham. It’s still up in the air whether or not it will make the grade in terms of being a quality show, but based on the casting and set pics, the odds seem to be stacking in its favor. Definitely looking forward to seeing a trailer for this one.
Gotham is set to debut this fall on Fox.
