We recently showed the trailer for Mortal Kombat: Legacy 2, which is a continuation of the web series started by director Kevin Tancharoen, who began the series after his pitch film, Mortal Kombat: Rebirth, went viral. Since that time, Tancharoen has been working steadily on the web series, debuting a 9-episode first season, Mortal Kombat: Legacy, which was exceptionally well received. Based on the videogame of the same name, the series dives deeper into the origins of the famed characters of the Mortal Kombat universe, including Scorpion, Sub Zero, Rayden, Jax, Sonya, Baraka, Johnny Cage, and more. Season 2 has a number of new and returning faces, including Casper Van Dien as Johnny Cage, Mark Dacascas as Kung Lao, Brian Tee as Lui Kang, and Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa reprising his role from the original film as Shang Tsung. Check out the first episode of Legacy 2 below!
Fight!:
I re-watched season one a few nights ago and was struck by how much they did with a limited budget and found it to be leagues better than either of the feature films. Paul W.S. Anderson's film was great for its time, but the Legacy series is something else entirely, chock full of detail, style, and depth. Oh, and bloody fun action. Tomorrow, we'll be debuting an exclusive interview with director Kevin Tancharoen where he discusses the series in depth, as well as his plans for the upcoming feature film and how it relates to the web series, so keep your eyes peeled for that!
In the meantime, you can watch all episodes of Mortal Kombat: Legacy 2 over on Machinima now!
