Just a few days ago, we learned that Mark Hamill is the A-lister that has been hired to provide the voice of Chucky in director Lars Klevberg's remake of the 1988 killer doll classic CHILD'S PLAY. We still haven't heard what sort of voice Hamill will be giving this new Chucky, but a promo video has been released online to give a very quick preview of what Hamill's Chucky laugh sounds like.
Clearly we are desperate to hear what Hamill's vocal performance is like when we're grasping on to this quick "heh heh heh"… But you could also say that it confirms that this version of Chucky is still going to enjoy the homicidal antics it gets up to, even if it is an A.I. gone haywire rather than a doll inhabited by the soul of a serial killer.
Written by Tyler Burton Smith, the new CHILD'S PLAY stars Gabriel Bateman, Aubrey Plaza, Brian Tyree Henry, Beatrice Kitsos, Ty Consiglio, and Carlease Burke in the story of
a mother (Plaza) who gives her son (Bateman) a toy doll for his birthday, unaware of its more sinister nature.
David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith have produced the CHILD'S PLAY remake through their company KatzSmith Productions. MGM subsidiary Orion Pictures will be releasing the film through their United Artists Releasing banner on June 21st.
Original Chucky voice actor Brad Dourif is not participating in this remake due to his loyalty to Don Mancini, who has written all seven of the previous films in the franchise and is currently trying to continue the original series with a TV show that's in development at Syfy.
