UPDATE: We've been asked by the studio to take down the previous images, but in their wake we've found another new image that's currently up at a toy expo (courtesy of CBM). So, while the previous pics are down, here's a slice of marketing art to tide you over. I'm betting we'll be seeing some Turtles in motion very soon…
Well, now, this could be quite promising.
After a series of setbacks, delays, frown-inducing rumors, and a bad Halloween costume from the TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES reboot, there may be cause to get a little excited. From producer Michael Bay and director Jonathan Liebesman, the reboot was always going to be an uphill battle, especially with characters that have grown with a die-hard fanbase that holds the canon as close to their hearts as STAR WARS. A series of images displaying model molds and concept art seemingly from the reboot have begun filtering throughout the net from numerous sources and they look…exceptionally promising. From the signature foursome of Leonardo, Donatello, Michaelangelo, and Raphael to the main baddie, The Shredder, we now have a look at the "reinvented" hereoes in a half shell and they may well surprise you.
Take a look:
Everyone is going to have an opinion on these, no doubt. Some will champion them, some will loathe them, and some will make a voodoo doll of Michael Bay and break out the needles. For me, these designs look great. I fully expected something much cheesier and granted we still haven't seen these "in action," but the designs themselves look well thought out and perfectly fitting. I need to see more to be completely won over, but this looks like an edgier take on the TMNT without sacrificing their identities and I'm down with it. As much as I enjoyed the live-action flicks of the '90's I don't want to see them rehashed and this appeases me that it won't be the case. But, that's just me. Let's hear what YOU'VE got on this…
TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES kicks into theaters on August 8, 2014.
