We recently caught a look at GREENLAND, an upcoming new action-thriller which stars Gerard Butler as a man who is desperately trying to save his family as a planet-killing comet races towards Earth, and it seems that Butler is far from done with the action genre. While speaking with Entertainment Weekly recently, Gerard Butler went on to reveal a couple of his upcoming projects, which includes sequels to ANGEL HAS FALLEN and DEN OF THIEVES.
"I think with everything going on, we need him," Butler said of ANGEL HAS FALLEN hero Mike Banning. "He needs to come back." The actor went on to confirm that a fourth film in the franchise which includes OLYMPUS HAS FALLEN, LONDON HAS FALLEN, and ANGEL HAS FALLEN is indeed in the works. "Yeah, I think you will be seeing another," Butler said. "We're toying away with another really fantastic idea that we're working on at the moment that obviously we can't say too much about." Butler also said that he's set to reunite with writer-director Christian Gudegast for a sequel to DEN OF THIEVES as well.
We're working on that script at the moment, and I'm getting pages daily from Christian. It's a fun ride, spreading across North America into Europe and the diamond district of Marseilles. It's very cool and has a more European vibe this time. All the fun characters, Big Nick, Donnie, and Lobbin' Bob [Jordan Bridges], will be back. And I'm really excited about it.
DEN OF THIEVES followed "the intersecting and often personally connected lives of an elite unit of the LA County Sheriff’s Dept. and the state’s most successful bank robbery crew as the outlaws plan a seemingly impossible heist on the Federal Reserve Bank of downtown Los Angeles." We first heard about a sequel to DEN OF THIEVES more than two years ago, but fans of the film will be pleased to know that it still seems to be in the works. Gerard Butler will next be seen in GREENLAND, which is still set to hit theaters on August
