It doesn't happen all that often but MAD MAX: FURY ROAD seems to have managed the impossible; it's lived up to the rather lofty hype that was bestowed upon it. The film has done remarkably well critically as well as performing decently at the box-office, so it's only natural that the sequel talk has started to heat up again. Director George Miller spoke on Q&A with Jeff Goldsmith where he revealed that the title of the next installment of his post-apocalyptic saga will be MAD MAX: THE WASTELAND. I like it.
We’ve got one screenplay and a novella. It happened because with the delays [on Fury Road] and writing all the backstories, they just expanded.
The screenplay is for MAD MAX: THE WASTELAND while the novella is for the as-yet untitled third film. We'd known that Miller had been writing sequels to MAD MAX: FURY ROAD for some time and, although things seem to have changed somewhat, I'm pleased that it looks likely that we'll actually get to see them realized on screen. Keep in mind that nothing has been announced officially but I can't imagine that Warner Bros. won't want more Max.
MAD MAX: FURY ROAD is currently in theaters and if you haven't already, you should really check it out. If you have seen it…see it again, and then make sure to head on over to our "What did you think of Mad Max: Fury Road?" post to chime in with your thoughts on the film.
