It's been five years since the release of Mad Max: Fury Road, and while we still have a bit of a wait ahead of us befor our next trip to the Wasteland, we do know when that will be. Warner Bros. have announced that George Miller's upcoming Mad Max: Fury Road prequel, Furiosa, will hit theaters on June 23, 2023.

Furiosa will chart the origins of Imperator Furiosa before she became one of Immortan Joe's war captains and met up with Max Rockatansky in Mad Max: Fury Road. The role was memorably played by Charlize Theron in Fury Road, but Anya Taylor-Joy will be taking over the character for the spin-off, where she'll also be joined by Chris Hemsworth and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. Back in October, Taylor-Joy said that she was "humbled and grateful" to be following in the footsteps of Charlize Theron. Taylor-Joy added that although she "fell in love with Furiosa" and "the way that Charlie presented her," she also knew that she needed to make the role her own. "[Charlize] did such an incredible job and it was so beautiful and I can't even think about trying to step [into her shoes]," said Taylor-Joy. "It has to be something different, because it just can't be done." In addition to Furiosa, Warner Bros. also announced that Coyote vs. Acme will debut on July 21, 2023 and The Color Purple musical on December 20, 2023.

Before George Miller gets to work on Furiosa, he'll have to complete work on Three Thousand Years of Longing starring Idris Elba and Tilda Swinton. Production on the film is currently underway, but we don't know all that much about the project just yet. Miller has previously described it as the anti-Mad Max. "It’s a movie that is very strongly visual, but it’s almost the opposite of Fury Road," Miller said. "It’s almost all interior and there’s a lot of conversation in it. There are action scenes, but they are by the by and I guess you could say it’s the anti-Mad Max." Producer Doug Mitchell also teased that the sets are "some of the most spectacular I’ve ever seen."
