George Lucas is involved with Indiana Jones 5

Just when you thought you were rid of George Lucas, hoping he'd be off on a beach making experimental films somewhere far away from you… HE'S BACK!!!

And let me do you one better… He's executive producing the fifth Indiana Jones movie. 

During a press event promoting his latest film THE BFG, Steven Spielberg confirmed that even though Disney may have control over the franchise now, George Lucas isn't completely letting go of this baby yet. 

George is gonna to be an executive producer on it with me. … I would never make an Indiana Jones film without George Lucas. That'd be insane.

Now that doesn't exactly spell out how involved Lucas will be, as he really seemed to walk away from STAR WARS, even as a consultant, once Disney started doing whatever the hell they wanted. However, as much ownership as we give Harrison Ford for playing Indy and Spielberg for directing all of the films, the franchise has really been heavily Lucas-driven from the start. And sure, he made a really big misstep with the last film, and we all acknowledge that, but let's not rewrite history with Lucas being some sort of plague that ruined the entire legacy of Indiana Jones. He's done more than his fair share of good for the character and, even if his input is severely limited for this next chapter, it probably wouldn't feel right if he wasn't even remotely involved with what's to come. 

INDIANA JONES 5 is set for a July 19, 2019 release.
