As a man of many talents George Clooney has dabbled in a myriad of film projects throughout the years. He's played a dashing Pediatric Fellow on the medical drama show ER, he's donned the Bat-nipples as Gotham's Caped Crusader, and has had the distinct pleasure of partying with the Muppets. Back in 2005 Clooney cut his directing teeth by helming CONFESSIONS OF A DANGEROUS MIND, a film in which he also starred alongside Sam Rockwell, Drew Barrymore and Julia Roberts. From there the suave savant of Hollywood shot for a series of other films including: LEATHERHEADS, THE IDES OF MARCH, THE MONUMENTS MEN and SUBURBICON.
Today Deadline Hollywood is reporting that Clooney is in early talks with 20th Century Fox to direct ECHO, a 21 Laps-produced script by Christopher MacBride. While the deal is in its very early stages of development, a source close to Deadline said that they expect the project to move forward with Clooney at the helm.
When the film arrives ECHO will be presented as an original thriller with a sci-fi edge in which a drone specialist has a psychological crisis: is he paranoid in suspecting his lover is not who she appears to be, and could she possibly have been replaced? Dun dun dunnnn!
ECHO is set to be produced by 21 Laps’ Shawn Levy, Dan Levine and Dan Cohen. Meanwhile, Clooney's next directorial effort comes by way of the first episode for the miniseries adaptation of the Joseph Heller novel CATCH-22.
