Every now and then a piece of movie news emerges which just leaves you feeling utterly confused; I'm experiencing that right now, as will you soon enough. The following may contain spoilers for BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE so be forewarned. Michael Shannon's General Zod met his end at the close of MAN OF STEEL but as we saw in the trailer for BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE, he still has some part to play in the events to come.
Michael Shannon spoke with Vulture and shared a delightful little story about how he got trapped in a porta-potty on the set of BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE:
I was in my costume, and I couldn’t use my fingers because in the sequel I have flippers instead of hands, so I had these wax flippers on my fingers, and I couldn’t open the door, and I could hear Zack [Snyder, the director] being like, 'Where’s Shannon? Where the f–k is he?' and the whole crew was standing around. I was like, knocking on the door with my flippers, 'Let me out of here!'
Thankfully a craft-service guy took notice of the actors absence and was able to free Shannon from his-wait, did he say flippers? He definitely said flippers right? I'm not just imagining that? As to why Michael Shannon may have flippers on his hands in BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE, I couldn't even begin to explain that. General Zod's corpse was glimpsed in the BVS trailer, seemingly entering the the possession of Lex Luther (Jesse Eisenberg,) so I suppose his "flippers" could stem from an experiment Lex runs on the General. It's also entirely possible that Michael Shannon is just messing with us, so keep that in mind.
Millions upon millions of people have viewed the BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE trailer, but Michael Shannon is not one of him; in fact, he wasn't even aware that he had made an appearance in it, saying "well, I haven’t seen the trailer either, so I don’t know what I am in the trailer, I could be a toaster, or a Porsche, I don’t know.” Look for an answer to General Zod's "flippers" when BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE opens on March 25, 2016.
