BRIGHT may have taken Will Smith to the small screen for a change, but the man is still a big-time star who thrives on the big screen. We may not see him grace it this year, but next year he’s got two potentially big movies coming out – ALADDIN (voicing Genie) and GEMINI MAN – the latter of which he has just started filming with legendary director Ang Lee.
The long-gestating project has officially begun production, with Smith taking to his booming Instagram account to post a little video of him filming in Georgia. Smith is wearing a face mask/net thing, followed a photo of Lee wearing the same thing. Peas in pod, those two.
First week on my new film @GeminiManMovie!! Ang Lee got me out here fighting the wildlife.
Here is the plot synopsis:
Gemini Man is an innovative action-thriller starring Will Smith as Henry Brogan, an elite assassin, who is suddenly targeted and pursued by a mysterious young operative that seemingly can predict his every move.
The film was initially slated to be made by Disney, until Skydance Media picked it up two years ago and now has Jerry Bruckheimer producing. The film also stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Clive Owen and Benedict Wong.
The film sounds like a cool concept, and a Smith/Lee collaboration seems too interesting to avoid. This will be the biggest movie Lee has directed since his Oscar-winning work on LIFE OF PI (2012), with BILLY LYNN’S LONG HALFTIME WALK not getting the attention or box office anyone hoped. My eyes are glud to this one, for sure.
GEMINI MAN is set for October 4, 2019.
